The Small Town Project

This site received an interesting comment to our recent post, "Paying for Growth, Prospering from Development". John Feeney from Iowa wrote to congratulate us on our efforts and to let us know that the small towns of Mount Vernon and Lisbon are in much the same situation as ours.
John publishes an excellent website dedicated to preserving and enhancing the best of those two towns. His website makes excellent reading. They have the same problems as we face, and just the same solution - concentrate on economic development instead of on physical growth.

  • Thanks Tony! It was nice to see you folks made some real political gains in your recent election. I think towns everywhere need to take a fresh look at growth issues and need to get some people into government who are willing to so so as well.

Ultimately, it seems to me, it all goes to some huge, worldwide issues of population growth and the environment. And local areas need to start taking the initiative as most national governments are doing too little to deal with such issues. It's big stuff, but our local efforts will play a part in effecting the change we owe to future generations.

Again, keep up the good work. And I'll look forward to staying in touch and following your progress!
