Second Survey Results

Tony Cooke has emailed us the results of the survey that he and his group of concerned citizens distributed at last month's open house (and online here). He's in the process of compiling them into a single report for presentation to Council today (Monday) and submission to the Review for this Thursday, but was kind enough to forward the raw results to us over the weekend.

Of particular interest were the first two documents, providing an indepth summery of the votes cast and a comprehensive list of the comments received. There's a lot to process and discuss here, but we wanted to get it online as quickly as possible, so feel free to dig in and we welcome any comments! Thanks to Tony & co. for the "scoop".

Update: Tony provided a new updated document that combines the survey results and comments -- view the new PDF here.

Just a quick comment. Thanks to Tony and friends for all the hard work collating the survey results. Having recently been personally referred to as a "NIMBY" and a "NAYSAYER" in the Summerland and the Penticton papers I was beginning to think I was the only person in Summerland who felt the way I did about controlling growth in Summerland and particularly in ALR areas. I'm off to do some pruning in my orchard now feeling a lot better, and will be planting another 200 apple trees in a week or so. The only way they will ever subdivide my orchard is over my dead body (which probably won't be that far along, sigh).

  • I'm not sure why naysayer and nimby should be considered insults, really. You're calling it as you see it, and you're doing the research to back it up.

What if the next draft of the OCP proposed taking half as much ALR land from the area adjacent to downtown (north side). Would it still seem unnecessary and upsetting to you?
